Located in Bruparck, a few metres away from the Atomium, Mini Europe has about 350 mockupson a escale 1/25, which represent 80 different cities of the European Union.
THE MOCKUPS IN MNI-EUROPE
Mini-Europe is well-known for the quality of its mockups. Since 1989, when the park was opened, it is a landmark for all tourists who come to Brussels. It is one of the main attractions for children and adults.
The Mini-Europe mockups are of outstanding quality. In order to build them up, they used sophisticated construction techniques, after many hours of study. After selecting the monument, plans and photographs are collected, copied and then moulded in silicone. Finally the mockup is built in polyester. However, there are also some monuments built in marble, like the tower of Pisa.
The most important buildings in Europeare represented in Mini-Europe: a 13-metre high Eiffel Tower, a 4-metre high Big Ben or the steaming Vesuvius volcano. The most expensive one was the Town Hall of the Grand Place of Brussels. The mockup cost 350,000 euros and what was particularly complicated to do was to hand sculpt all the typical Brabant Gothic figures.
Another particularly laborious model monument to build was the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, which took 24,000 hours to be finished.
THERE IS MORE THAN JUST MOCKUPS
In Mini-Europe there is more than just model monuments. Next to the mockups, there areplants, trees, flowers and bonsais. You will also find trains, boats and Dutch windmills.
IS IT WORTH VISITING MINI EUROPE?
With morethan 350,000 visitors a year, Mini-Europe is one of the most popular attractions of Brussels. Anyway, the entrance is quite expensive and it is focused more for children than for adults.
For our liking, it is not one of the most interesting attractions of Brussels.
There is a possibility of a combined visit Mini-Europe and Atomium.
